  1. caramel custard

    April 11, 2012 by admin

One of my favorite desserts. It is sweet and so yummy. I have only learned to make this dessert when I was pregnant with my second child because I have craved so much for it I had to have it. It is not easy to find in stores here since it is a Filipino recipe (I think) so if one is craving for it one has to make it. I have my ever reliable steamer for recipes like this and with ingredients easy enough to procure, I made this dessert several times already. And since I am the only person who eats this at home I make just enough for a few days consumption. Try it, you will like it. Should you be interested to make this goodness, try to check for leche flan recipes online. Follow the steps and it will be ready in no time. Enjoy!

And I wish I have this right now in my kitchen (prepared by somebody else, of course).

  3. chicken wings barbecue

    February 15, 2012 by admin

This is a Filipino style chicken barbecue. As you can see, it is not yet cooked. I did not get the chance to take pictures of the cooked barbecue because at the time I was starving and I ate the lot right after I took them off the grill. The wings were marinated for a couple of hours in soy sauce, banana ketchup, lemon juice, sugar, a little bit of soda (I think), garlic, and a pinch or two of ground black pepper, then grilled. The result was delicious. Take it from me who is very picky when it comes to authentic Filipino dishes, after all, I am Filipino :D

  4. pineapple upside down cake

I have made this cake for the first (and only) time last year, while I was pregnant with my daughter. I have only bought it prior to that so I did not really have any idea how to make it. I did my online search on recipes and was lucky enough to read a blog post from one of my online friends about the cake. I asked her for her recipe which she readily gave me. I made the cake and I surprised myself. It was really good. Even the husband liked the cake and ate a few slices. That in itself is an accomplishment since he is very picky when it comes to food that I fix. I have not made it again though. I am on a diet so I cannot eat anything much no matter how I crave for it. Maybe when I get my desired weight I will start cooking and eating again.

  5. canned goods

These are my expensive vices. I say it is a vice because when the notion hit me, I have to have these right away regardless of how much it costs or who gets aggravated having to find these stuff for me. Especially the Fiesta beef loaf which is only marketed in the Visayas and southern Philippine regions. When I get my hands on these goodies I make them last as long as I could to compensate for the expense and trouble my family has to go to so I can have what I want. The husband said I am a spoiled brat and I guess I am, lol. I normally fry the beef loaf but only after slicing, then dipping the slices in beaten eggs. The result is so delicious. At least to me. The husband will not even attempt to eat it. As for the corned beef, it is easy to fix this one. I just dump the contents in a pot, wait for it to simmer then turn the heat off. It should be ready to eat with rice. There are elaborate ways to fix these canned goods but I prefer them simple because that is how I remember them fixed while I was growing up.
